Event Description

In our current three workshop series we are exploring "Signs & Symbols" in the peace context. Can these elements be interpreted as "symbols of conflict" or "symbols of peace" ?

In the first two events (on March 14 and March 28) we talked about different meanings of symbols and how these differences affect co-existence. Now we invite you to the third and last one of this workshop series. Our topic will be:

Language: A Symbol of Exclusion or the Way to Understanding?

This will be an opportunity to talk about a specific kind of symbol, "language". How do we communicate? How do we deal and how should we deal with the obvious language barriers we encounter not only in the Middle East, but, too, in Europe or other parts of the world? Is it only the language barrier that makes mutual understanding a task so hard to achieve?

Language, something considered as a mutual tool of communication, can be both constructive and destructive through one's choice of the way for using it. Thus, it can play a major role within a wide range of human relations, so needless to say, peacebuilding activities.

The leading questions for this workshop are:

In what ways does language act as a symbol of exclusion?

How can we create a mutual language and finally learn to understand each other?

I think you might be able to utilize Humanity Healing and possibly check the "ambassador program" for some of your project listing and support.
