We are proud to invite you to the second of three workshops on a future 'Palestinian State'.

After our successful series on 'The Jewish State', several members have suggested we should follow this up with a series on a (future) 'Palestinian State - Vision and Reality'. In our previous Online Peace Talks events we have already discussed that issue to an extent - the Chat Workshop environment, however, gives us the opportunity to discuss a future Palestinian state in a more constructive and organized way.

While the Israelis already have their state, the Palestinians still dream of their own independent realm. By many, a two-state solution is seen as the only viable perspective for peaceful co-existence. Although the Palestinians are currently successfully building the framework that will enable them to govern an independent state soon, there are still questions as to whether the Palestinian citizens are really ready to accept the 'State of the Jews' as their neighbour, and, additionally, whether a way can be found to unify the Palestinians (unify the Fatah-led West Bank and the Hamas-led Gaza Strip) in the near future. Furthermore, would the end of the occupation also involve the end of Jewish settlements?

Therefore, there is a lot to discuss - and, after our first workshop on that topic (on Jan 2), in which we talked about 'the Palestinians and their long way to independence', we will now look at Palestinian state-building in detail and ask whether the Palestinians are 'ready for a state'.

The workshop is called 'Ready for the State? - Putting Statehood into Practice' - and the leading questions are the following:

What exactly does it take to build a state in general?

What particular challenges concerning state-building are there for a future Palestinian state?

In your view, are the Palestinians ready for a full-fledged state? If no, what factors currently impede efficient state-building?

Please note that the event will start on Sunday, 16 January at 20.00 Jerusalem time, in the MEPEACE Chat.
