We're proud to invite you to another MEPEACE Chat Workshop, taking place next Sunday (27 March) at 20.00 Jerusalem time in our chatroom.
After having successfully accomplished a three-workshop-series on a future Palestinian state, it's appropriate now to discuss a current topic in the world's headlines: The attacks on Libya and the question whether there can be a 'good' or 'just' war.
Discussing war in a platform for peace will certainly be a challenge, but let's share what we all feel when see pictures of the recent violence in Libya. It's not the first time that - predominantly - Western military forces are deployed with the aim to 'make peace' in global conflict hotspots (see the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, East Timor or Iraq). Admittedly, some of these interventions were and are more popular than others.
The leading questions of the workshop will be:
Is it right to fight violence with violence - can there be 'good' wars?
What are the most important legal aspects when it comes to humanitarian interventions (expert opinions welcome)?
In the current case of Libya, what are prospects, what the greatest dangers for the coalition waging war against Gaddafi? How could Libya without Gaddafi look like?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please note that the event will start on Sunday, 27 March at 20.00 Jerusalem time, in the MEPEACE Chat.
If you have any questions regarding the event, please don't hesitate to contact us at dialogue@mepeace.org.
We are looking forward to your participation!
