Freedome and respect?  I simple soldier was kidnapped, not llowed to see e redcross for 6 years, and Israel is forced to free 1000 hamas "militants" with a third of them who have mrdered. We are talking about releasing terrorists who are responsible for the deaths of 100's of civillans. I just hope that his deal will not bring more bloodshed to innocent civillians or not increase the appitite for more abductions.

I will just be thankful when Gilad Shalit  will be ck ome where he deserve and pray that these murderers will stop with their Jihad ways.

You are one sided and miss the whole system of humanity here.

1000 families will join their relatives who are considered freedom fighters, this is a sign of ending the conflict.

1 Israeli family will join her relative who is considered a symbol of national care.

This deal will not bring bloodshed to innocent civillians, but I guess that the signs of change will bring more violance as one sided people will try to avoid the developing change where a Palestinian state is forming here as another step toward the end of the conflict

Let me get this straight a world recognized terrorist orginization holds a simple soldier hostage, does not let him see the read cross and uses his as a pawn to release hundreds of its own terrorists.  Including many who have sent murders to blow them selve up in cafes, on buses and killing innocents driving their cars.  They are now sent free to do whatever they want. Not to mention that Hamas, who vows to destroy Israel, the PA the partner for which we have any chance negotiating with is greatly weakened by this and the Palestinain now learn that if they want to get something, violence clearly pays off.

This is not a legitimate side?  Your one sided appoach is not, just a bit nieve?

I am curious if Baruch Goldstein were alive and the government let him go back to Hebron woud you also applaud  this as a step for peace for what others consider a freedom fighter? I can tell you I would not and condenm it just the same.

I guess we will have more to talk aout when they are released and interviewed, like Samir Kuntar who vowed to continue murder and destruction.  When we here their comments and see thier actions then we will see who is one sided and who is simply a realist.  Trust me, I pray that you are right but, everything from my gut, to  simply history shows me this will cost many many lives.

Dear Jeff,

It is sad to say that from what you presented so far in mepeace.org you probably will never get it straight.

Hamas is complex entity, some of it engage in resitance to the jewish entity other parts of it govern more then 1,500,000 people in Gaza. This organization proved to get palestinians support in the past for its social work and his function as not-fatah entity. Fatah is an organization that without election got from Israel the position to govern Palestine Autonomy. There is element of terror in Hamas people, and it is not the same terror elements in the Israeli political right wing, but the point is that Hamas is moving toward unification with Fatah for governance Palestine and in this path, as many other "violent resistance" groups from ANC to ETZEL will have to adjust a more moderate approuch.

Hamas is part of the Palestine population, and if Israel make it iliegitimate it actually force it to continue take the violent path. So we mast do things, from negotiation to the enable of release 1,000 prisoners to help Hamas move into the legitimate zone.

If Baruch Goldstein were alive and his release would be in the direction of building change and palestinian state (that probably evacuate the extrimists from Hebron) I would applaud. I would recognize the celebration of his family for his release.

Since this can be a step forward toward more radical change, and Gaza regime going to transform so it would be able to have the palestinians sign agreement with Israel then I expect violance to raise where people like you and Hamas extrimists work together to paint violent future and no hope to us, the Palestinians and Israelis. This is what we need to be consern more then any one of the released.

"get is straight" - does that mean I have to agree with your way of making peace?  This is a discussion about freedoms and rights but I have to get it straight?

Hamas in no way has ever said they will stop the violent resistance, they have not recognized the zionist entity ands still call for its destruction.  Hamas is a recognized terror enityy by the EU and the US. There is no elements here, teh government of Hamas as far as all western governments are concerned is a terrorist one. If you remember one of the reasons that unification did not work is because they would not call for an end to violent resistance. In terms of negotiation, how can one negotiate its own demise.

Unlike your Barch Goldstein senerio, this was not done for any change in policy on Hamases part.  It was simply a case of giving into a terrorists demands.  The motivation to kidnaps soldiers will only increase. In th epast, released terrorist have gone back to killing, that is a fact, you may choose to ignore it but, I think there is something to be said to making peace in the real world and not pretending these this do not exist.

Its unfortunate that once again you result to personal attacks that you keep claiming to to be against  "I expect violance to raise where people like you and Hamas extrimists work together to paint violent future".  Why would u write this?  I do not promote violence in any which way.  I want peace, I don not want to live in war yet you say I am trying to pain a violent future. This is your way of peace?  Is my point so illigtemate that it warrents a personal attack. Why not address the issues I have brought up and maybe have an intelligent conversation about it instead of this.

Gershon Baskin: Thank you everyone for the good wishes. The real hero is David Meidan, the special representative of Netanyahu who was willing to take risks, break the rules and understood the passion and commitment that I brought to the table. The other real hero is Dr. Ghazi Hamad from the Hamas who has been working with me for 5 years to secure the release of Gilead - a person who I trust and who trusts me an...d someone who is the new face of Hamas willing to work for peace with Israelis. And lastly, I must say that nothing would have happened without Netanyahu deciding that it was time to bring Gilead home, even though he was in principle opposed to the deal - he broke his own principles in favor of humanism and compassion. And of course my good friend the Egyptian mediator who I know for years and succeeded where all others had failed.

I am very surprised this is happening, and I hope it all goes well, without any problems.

It was expected.

This is what the futrue hold:

1. change in Hamas that enables Palestinian unity

2. border agreement to form a palestinian state

3. a lot of violance as the next stage of Palestine Israel relationship emerges.

with all the pain ... we are on a good path.

Held in Israeli prisons: 1) Marwan Barghouthi, authorized terrorist attacks in Israel, five lifetimes; 2) Abdullah Barghothi, organizer of terror attacks and suicide bombings (prepared explosives for suicide vests) resulting in the deaths of sixty Israeli citizens; 3) Ahmed Sadat, assassinated Israeli Tourism Minister, Reharem Ze'evi; 4) Amina Mona, lured a lovesick teenage Israeli boy, Ophir Nahom, over the internet into a secret place of love where he was murdered by a group of Arab men awaiting him; 5) Hassan Solana, masterminded suicide attacks in which seventy Israelis were killed; 6) Hakam Awad, entered an Israeli village along with his cousin, crept into the Fogel family home and slit the throats of five Fogel family members including the mother and three-month old baby boy.  when confronted in Court, showed no remorse and remarked that if if given the opportunity would do it again; 7) Hakam Awad, assisted his cousin in the Fogel family murders but not yet sentenced; Israel has no death penalty except in very rare cases; will probably also mock the court process.

At least one, Amina Mona, is slated to be set free with the coming exchange of Gilad Schalit.  Many others are coldblooded murderers who will be feted by Palestinians as "heroes" just as they name their streets and squares after terrorists.  There is something plainly wrong with these people.  Only people totally out of touch with reality or Palestinian provocateurs masquerading as "peace lovers" would celebrate this event.

Robert,

This is a war.  War is a conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a nation.

Israel is at war, because there has been NO peace settlement. Until there is, Israel – and you, as an Israeli citizen - have NO right to put the enemy on trial or make any judgements.

You have made aliyah to a country that has been at war for more than 80 years. What you are looking at are the consequences of Israel’s intransigence over accepting a peace settlement.

Are you saying you do not want Gilad released?  Are you attempting to put his life at further risk? Do you have any idea about the extent to which it is a miracle that he is still alive?

Do you have the wit to realize he will not really be safe until he is actually in his parents’ home?   What kind of a game do you think you are playing with this man’s life?   Do you even have the capacity to think through the experiences he has had to survive over the last 5 years? Are you not worried about his mental and physical wellbeing, because I am?  I will be happy and relieved when I see a picture of him sitting in his parents lounge room. I, a lifetime supporter of independence for Palestine, am more concerned with whether or not Gilad makes it home, than what happens to the 1000 Palestinians. What is it you are thinking of? This is the time to plan for peace, otherwise all will be lost, including Gilad.

It is war, Sussan.  And at no time has Israel been free of the horror, perpetrated, since 1920 (terror attack against Jews) and 1929 (Hebron Massacre) and 1948 (five Arab nations perpetrating war against the new state) and on and on and on.  Only when Jordan and Egypt realized that they could not defeat Israel by force were the peace treaties signed.  So that's over ninety years, Sussan, not eighty.  And when war is foisted upon you, when your neighbours refuse to accept you, and when you battle back, calling the threatened party (Israel) "intransigent" when no peaceful negotiations were ever put forward (see Yasser Arafat) and hysterically blaming me for for making "judgements" and "putting the enemy on trial" (what are you talking about?) then we know that your own thinking is problematic.  In what way are you even committed to a peaceful solution, Sussan?  You appear to be more like one of the many Israeli demonizers we know so much about.  Kindly describe in what way, and specifically, the Arab people and governments have ever attempted to accept their neighbour, the Jewish state of Israel.  And, Yes, I made aliyah and am proud!

Robert, I have been contributing here for over a year, and my posts are all available for you to read.

I have discussed and answered all these questions multiple times. You too have been a member throughout this time, but have chosen to not participate.

We have discussed the Hebron massacre, and I suggest you read the discussion, if you are interested in finding out what really happened, which is considerably different to what you appear to believe.
