Comment by Tim Upham on September 11, 2012 at 9:02am Arabic is divided into different dialects. Each country has its own dialect, except for Egypt which has three dialects. You get down around Aswan, and they do not have the "j" sound. So if your name is John, they will say Gohn. The Palestinian dialect has a lot of "ish" in it. I can recognize regional Arabic dialects when I hear them. With Japan, I am involved with saving the Ainu language. Ainu has seven different dialects. Kushiro is the dialect they are teaching in Hokkaido schools. So it does not make any difference, if you are talking about nation-states or indigenous peoples.
Tim, in Hebrew it is the same - there is a way different to talk to women . as inta ans inti in Arabic, there is ata and at ( sounds like 'but' just more open) in Hebrew, ect. verbs, adjectives, adverbs and so on - all have the feminine form and the masculine one.
Comment by Tim Upham on September 10, 2012 at 8:27pm I have discovered the grammar to be more sexually segregated in Arabic. That is the reason why I cannot carry on a conversation with a woman in Arabic. Most of my conservations were with men. Which gives you an idea of how sexually segregated Arab/Islamic society is.
Shigeru, Arabic is not more difficult than Hebrew. you will find that there are many similar words. Writing Arabic must be difficult, indeed. I do not learn read&write, only to speak, which is easier.
