On December 31, 2006 we registered mepeace.org. We celebrate this day by announcing our first annual MEPEACE Awards. The MEPEACE board voted for ten awardees who have shown innovation, leadership, contribution and promise, online and on the ground. We also shine a light on organizations ennabling possibilities, education, innovation and initiative for peace. Thank you for your commitment to peace.
Online Dedication: Neri Bar On
A peacemaker and entrepreneur, Neri is recognized for his outstanding dedication, including and more than 3,000 contributions to discussions on mepeace.org.
On-the-ground organization: Hiba Hamzeh
A young Palestinian leader, Hiba has served as an outstanding executive partner, organized successful Peace Cafes and is recognized for her exceptional commitment.
Inspiration: Earl Prignitz
94 years old, Earl is a retired minister seeking "to find some young person who would take up the mission of promoting the cause of peace." Earl is recognized for being an inspiration.
Leadership: Oliver Haack
Oliver understands the possibility for peace to overcome the perils of war. Oliver is recognized for his leadership on mepeace.org, coordination of volunteers and innovation of the MEPEACE Chat Workshop.
Contribution: Marc Gopin
The director of the Center for World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution, and founder of MEJDI LLC. Marc is recognized for contributions proving the "Pen is mightier than the sword".
Promise: Noa Maiman
A successful actress, producer, and entrepreneur, Noa is recognized for inspiring vision and promise for peace, and for promoting MEPEACE by inviting 1,200 friends to mepeace.org.
Possibilities - JStreet
J Street was founded to change the dynamics of American politics and policy on Israel and the Middle East and has attracted over 100,000 active supporters. J Street is recognized for energizing new possibilities for peace.
Education - IPCRI - Israel/Palestine Center for Research & Information
A joint Israeli-Palestinian public policy think-tank and do-tank located in Jerusalem, IPCRI is recognized for innovating peace education by pioneering Peace Education Workshops for Palestinians, Israelis and Internationals.
Innovation - Abraham Fund Initiatives
Technology can be harnessed for peace, as demonstrated by The Abraham Fund Initiatives' first ever global online outreach event - "A Celebration of Coexistence". The organization is recognized for the benefit webcast - innovating outreach to benefit peace.
Initiative - Jamming for Peace
Jamming for Peace inspires peace through the universal medium of music and donation-based Arabic-learning groups across Israel. Jamming for Peace is recognized for creating atmosphere and awareness of peace on a shoe-string budget.
