March 28, 2010 from 8pm to 9:30pm
In our current three workshop series we are exploring "Signs & Symbols" in the peace context. Can these elements be interpreted as "symbols of conflict" or "symbols of peace" ? In the first workshop two weeks ago we tried to find our own definitions of symbols and our own answers to what they mean to us.Now we invite you to the second workshop of this series. Our topic will be:Buildings and monuments as symbols of exclusion,…See More

Ari Greenblatt replied to the discussion 'America finally condemned our govrament'
"Israel cant continue to exist in a vacuum in the Arab world or Muslim world. There must be a process of meeting of minds, leading to deep acceptance. This is the only true way for peace to occur. Political solutions don't count for much, they…"

"Ohad, Israel exists in the eyes of the Western world not in the eyes of the Arab world without recognition from the WHOLE world, we should be very careful of making any unilateral moves.. we have suffered the results of such moves too many times"

Ari Greenblatt replied to the discussion 'America finally condemned our govrament'
"A lot more will be buried unless we reach a solution that makes sense. I mourn the loss of every innocent life. Peace is possible through a meeting of minds and through good will. But it has to have a chance to thrive. Ohad, think it through,…"

Profile Information

My personal story:
I am an Israeli orthodox Jew. I believe that we all have a responsibility to be courageous and responsible enough to engage each other in respectful dialogue with a view towards finding common ground, in more ways than one !
Why I want peace:
Peace is the ultimate blessing for Israel for the region and for the planet
Interests and activities:
I give lectures in Jewish thought (I am an orthodox Rabbi)
I am 49 years old, divorced with four boys, all living in Israel.
I work as a computer software consultant in Israel.
Something you didn't know about me:
I study Islam and enjoy memorizing verses in Arabic
Favorite website:
http://www.vbm-torah.org/
How I found mepeace.org:
google
What I want to achieve here:
Discuss ways in which to promote grass roots organizations that can make a meaningful realistic contribution to breaking down barriers between Jews and Arabs; Palestinians and Israelis.

Good will is the best way to nurture co-existence. There is so little of that today

I mean what is generally meant by generalisin,g I think: assuming that a certain group of people share the political ideas - that is in this site - elsewhere it might mean attributing a bahavioural pattern to a religious, ethnic or whatever self identifying group of people. Haven't you ever generalised about other groups/types/nationalities/religious groups? I think it is a very common human failing - or maybe I'm generalising too much.

Hi- you are reminder of the dangers of generalising about types of people!

Salam, Ari. I like that you study Islam and enjoy memorizing verses in Arabic. That's a cool profile. Is the person in the picture with you your son? I used to tutor students with special educational needs at a school in Amman for almost two years.
