Profile Information

My personal story:
I am a long-time economic justice and Mideast peace activist and director of Do-It-Yourself IT, a small computer consulting firm in Los Angeles, CA that specializes in helping individuals and organizations learn to build, upgrade and professionally support their own computers and save a lot of money.

I formerly have worked as both a community organizer, publicist and fundraiser for CA Acorn, and as a tenant rights organizer for the Coalition for Economic Survival in L.A.

I have been a member and/or media and fund raising consultant for Americans for Peace Now, New Jewish Agenda, The New Israel Fund, American-Israeli Civil Liberties Coalition, Hashomer Hatzair, etc. And I have served as political press secretary for Los Angeles City Jobs with Peace initiative (we won) and The California Handguns Control Initiative (we lost).

I am presently a member of steering committee of Democratic Socialists of America, L.A. Local; an active member of the Workmen's Circle/Arbeter Ring, Los Angeles Chapter; and a member/supporter of The Coalition for Economic Survival, Los Angeles.

I get more personal below....
Why I want peace:
Well, as we know from Isaiah, Jeremiah, Jesus, Gandhi and King, truly desiring peace is anything but "peaceful!" And my own life certainly hasn't been a quiet or very soothing one. But, given the nature of upbringing, I really seem to have had little choice about growing up to be a left-wing economic justice and Mideast peace activist.

After all, I was raised as a religiously Orthodox (but very left-wing) labor-Zionist Jew in Detroit, Michigan -- home of the UAW and many nationally significant labor and civil rights struggles. And my parents taught me it was a de facto religious and ethical obligation for every Jew to "repair the world" and vigorously pursue both peace and social justice -- as the former could never come to be without the latter.

I also was extremely fortunate to attend a very remarkable, experimental college in Detroit, where many of my professors were union-affiliated labor intellectuals or former members of the French and German left-wing Catholic Workers movement. And I came of age during the height of the student struggle against the Vietnam war and badly misguided American militarism. So I fought a drawn out conscientious objector status battle with my local draft board until the government decided it was just too politically "risky" have me in the army.

I then went to graduate school to study sociology at Brandeis University -- not because it was a "Jewish" educational institution, but because it was both the most academically vibrant and most politically progressive sociology department in the country. (To be continued....)
Interests and activities:
See sections one and two above.
Something you didn't know about me:
I was once a fine artist and cartoonist. And, though it's hard to believe it happened, I was a very reluctant high school wrestling champion.
Favorite website:

How I found mepeace.org:
From an email sent to me by American's for Peace Now.
What I want to achieve here:
To acquire more great ideas and strategies, share good ones of my own, network and organize to make our world a vastly better place. To contribute to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and regain my former pride in the democratic and moral character of Israeli and Jewish-American society. To reduce the current bloated U.S. military budget and begin to shrink our vast, world-wide military empire. To redirect America's outrageously misspent national resources to create essential and economically viable green civilian manufacturing, advanced technology and social service jobs.
