Vegetarian Yontif Recipe

My family doesn't eat meat, as it would diminish the joy of our holiday to cause suffering. This is our favorite all-around holiday recipe.  In fact, you can substitute matzo meal for flour and use it on Pesach!Mushroom GougeresChoux pastry:1/2 c. flour                       3 eggs, beaten3/4 c. shredded cheese (sweet or sharp--they all work)6 T butter                         1/2 tsp salt3/4 c.   Water Filling:1 small onion (or leek)                1 grated (or diced) carrot1 cup sliced…See More

Rosh Hashanah Recipes

What is pivotal in the United States, are Rosh Hashanah recipes that hark back to Central Europe.  The obvious ones such as gefilte fish -- the best I ever had was in Hungary, made of carp -- honey cake -- to symbolize the apple dipped in honey for a sweet new year.  But what about foods and traditions outside of the Ashkenazic sphere of influence.  Ashkenazim will have fish, but fish to the Mizrahim of Iraq is considered bad luck.  Yet the Mizrahim of Morocco will have a lot of fish recipes to…See More

Profile Information

My personal story:
I am a Jewish descendent of several very spiritual families. I grew up in Chicago and became the leader of the best-known klezmer revival band in the Midwest, Maxwell Street Klezmer Band in 1983. My connection to Israel has been tested as people exchange hope for cynicism, anger and fear. I joined Americans for Peace Now and J-Street to work for something I believe in, I am a Zionist (I believe in Israel as a Jewish State with full rights for all citizens of all religions) and I am a strong supporter of the right of Palestinians to live in freedom, dignity and prosperity in their own independent state--bimhera biyamenu (soon and in our day), ensha'Allah, mirtz-HaShem, G-d willing!
Why I want peace:
Why should those who don't know how to talk respectfully to others, to listen or to compromise, rule the world? It is time for people who see each other as human, who treat each other with kindness and concern, and who want to create civil society made of all kinds of people, to decide the outcome of conflicts. It is time for extremists to be marginalized and everyday people to be in charge, and not the other way around.
Interests and activities:
I am a singer and musician. In addition to Maxwell Street Klezmer Band, I have founded several Jewish-Christian-Muslim bands. Recently, I started "Antique Semites," a Muslim-Jewish-Christian acoustic folk music ensemble featuring vocals, oud, accordion, bass, ney (flute), violin and hand percussion.
Something you didn't know about me:
I met my husband on the internet in 1994. It was bashert (meant to be)!
Favorite website:
http://www.klezmerband.com
How I found mepeace.org:
Through Ray Hanania, Chicago journalist
What I want to achieve here:
Connecting with moderates is a way to become a force for change. We need to be heard and represented--to be as loud, with our demand for peace, as the bombs and guns.
Do you promise to respect others and our guidelines and not spam?
Yes

Dear friend
"Vasudev kutukbkam" entire world is a family. This is the teaching of our indian culture and tradition. This is a wonderful site to to know our inner self and each other and can make a world a family.
We created countries, boundaries, religions, cast, race for any reason. But this the time to realize that we are one and naturally interconnected with each other which we can just realize by watching inhale and exhale of our breaths. The source is same without any discrimination of religion and boundaries, equally for all living life of universe .When we understand this simple thing then we must understand how our and other's life is equally important, valuable and respectable .
We should follow the nature's rule,God has given us a human life not for destruction but to look after the wellbeing of all living life so that peace and harmony can establish in this planet.
I shall be happy if we could be a friend with harmonious relationship.
