Seeking: The Next Generation of Creative Peace-builders

Currently focusing on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, 'Peace it Together' is a unique program that offers youth the opportunity to connect deeply with their so-called "enemy" while co-creating short films that can be used as peace-building tools throughout the world.Through dialogue and collaborative filmmaking, participants learn how to communicate and work together in ways that ensure everyone's needs are being met. This newly fostered ability to create something with their adversaries…See More

Profile Information

My personal story:
In the summer of 2008, thirty Palestinian, Israeli, and Canadian teen-agers gathered in and around Vancouver, British Columbia to participate in an extraordinary dialogue and filmmaking experience. Based on the successful 2006 program, and building on our inaugural program in 2004, the youths lived and learned together for three weeks, discovered their personal strengths and created the following inspiring short films.
Why I want peace:
Our vision is to build a culture of creative leaders inspiring and educating others to work toward peace. It is unreasonable to expect youth to come to a peaceful resolution to a regional conflict if they are growing up in an environment of fear, anger, and alienation. Our programs are designed specifically to overcome these hurdles, while at the same time giving youth educational tools to disseminate to wider audiences, and facilitating their transition to community leaders.

We are currently focusing on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. As our organization grows we will expand our work to address the needs of other domestic and international clashes and tensions.
Something you didn't know about me:
Featured in the NY Times and was funded by the Steven Spielberg's 'Righteous Persons Foundation'
How I found mepeace.org:
Peace and Collaborative Network
What I want to achieve here:
Connect with other peace makers and peace educators!
Do you promise to respect others and our guidelines and not spam?
Yes

A True Story By Faisal Al-Hatib
I am a Palestinian Arab from Hizmeh, a village between Jerusalem and Ramallah. When I was 15 years old I fought against the Israeli Occupation in search of freedom. At that time I thought every Jewish person, whether soldier or citizen, man or woman, young or old, should be killed. I rejected the right for any Jew to live and every Jew was a target. I was just a kid, believe me, and I didn’t understand anything about politics or the Arab-Israeli conflict. I was arrested and sat in jail for 12 years. This was during the first intifada from 1987. At that time nobody talked about peace but only of violence. I matured during my time in jail. I started studying and reading books on politics, literature, poetry, and about the Madrid Conference.

It gave me hope to live in peace and dignity. I learned that violence only breeds violence and that peace is the only solution for the two nations, the only way for both to have a respectful and beautiful future. We live on the same land. We are neighbors. We drink the same water and both pray to a monotheistic God. We must live in peace on the basis of religion for God and land for everyone.

The Symbol of Peace

The symbol of peace falls in the land of peace
Will we give them the chance to bring down the symbol of peace in the land of peace?
Many people know this is a plot of land full of olive trees.
And many Israeli and Palestinian families make a living from these trees
Especially that so many Palestinian families do not have another source of living,
except these olive trees

Days before the start of the harvest, especially in the West Bank,
What happened was expected, the start was of some settlers groups fighting Palestinian families
and preventing them to enter to the olive harvest,
Then the settlers started shooting the Palestinians, and set fire in the trees
Finally, with the help of European, American, Israeli, and other people from all over the world,
Some Palestinian families succeeded to collect their olives.

So, I am the address to thank all those who helped these families and brought them happiness,
And say to the settlers: We will not let you bring down the symbol of peace
For the olive trees are the symbol of peace in the land of peace
