My personal story:
My city is tel Aviv, where I was born and raised. Tiday I work at the Peres Center for Peace as the Assistant to Director General of the Center. I have abnother position as the Israeli coordinator of the Palestinian-Israeli Peace NGO Forum.
From a very young age I understood that my calling is to dedicate my life to my society in order to better their quality of living. Over the years I have taken part in various activities in order to focus my intentions and attain the tools to make my vision a reality. These include my academic studies, traveling around the world (Central America, East Asia, India, Africa, South Pacific islands and many more), participating in courses that have broadened my understanding of others and myself (such as Buddhism, dancing, 'Art of living', Arabic), and taking action in the political realm. I have also volunteered in a number of non profit organizations that reach a variety of different communities. These include employment opportunities for the disabled, social activities for the poor, development in poor neighborhoods and teaching underprivileged children.
Why I want peace:
Because that is the ONLY way.

o Who we are we:

House of peace (HOP) was founded in 1997 as a women empowerment program, it is managed by professional Palestinian women and Palestinian academics. HOP also benefits from the aid of other international organizations who wish to support and strengthen the democratic Palestinian society in the West Bank, in the more central areas but focus mainly on the secluded ones.

Mission Statement:
House of peace is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental Palestinian organization that was founded in Kharbtha town. HOP works to build and strengthen the foundations of women participation in all aspects of the Palestinian society, and to awaken democratic awareness among Palestine women in particular. Another goal HOP had set for itself it to establish new Palestinian women organizations.

o Objectives:

House of peace aims for the following objectives:

1- To work for the protection and promotion of the rights of children, and work for the elimination of all forms of exploitation and discrimination against children;

2- 2To increase citizens’ awareness of the concept of women empowerment and awareness of the existence of institutions which promote this idea;

3- 3To help women develop leadership skills and enhance the role of women in Palestinian society;

4- To encourage local women organizations to inspire women who wish take part in the public policy decision-making process, in order that they participate in governance in a responsive and accountable manner;

5- To enhance the ability of Palestinians to meet the challenges of building a democratic, participatory civil society. This is achieved primarily by working with various bodeis, such as civil society organizations, youth groups, women's and professional associations and private sector organizations;

6-

To promote a positive and constructive peace building processes with Israeli counterparts and international partners. process that requires the development of tools , for promoting mutual understanding at various levels of both Palestinian and Israeli peoples

o HISTORY OF HOP:

o In June 1998, HOP formally established itself as an independent Palestinian organization and was registered in Ramallah on may the 2nd. HOP is registered as a non-profit organization in the Palestinian Authority according to the Law of NGOs, signed by President Arafat in February 2000.

Location:
Our center is based in a town (Kharbatha AL Harthia) which is at the district of Ramaalah city, in the distance of about 25.Km.

Why was this area chosen as our base:

This area suffers from a lack of education and services. The village is settled in the midst of twelve other villages, which means that our center is accessible for women who live in the surrounding villages. There are 55,000 inhabitants in this area and therefore it is considered to be a vulnerable one.

The majority of the population in this region is consisted of farmers living in abject poverty, who are therefore deprived of the most basic education.

I myself have wittinesed some problems that might prove to be threat to the stability and prosperity of those living in this region. The main problems are the inefficiency of the public services, the economic struggle, the lack of health care, violence against women and children including "Honor Crimes" and forced pregnancies .

Most of the population in this area feel that their governmental institutions aren't working hard enough or dedicating enough resources towards improving the population's quality of life,, and taking care of the great number of epidemics that erupt in this area and which pose a threat to our whole society today.

We firmly believe that education, awareness-raising and the improvement of the economic circumstances of the local residents, are some of the most effective means that can enable us to restore their ability to lead a life in human dignity and to encourage them to take a constructive role in building there civil society .

HOP call for action

Sometimes it takes just one person to inspire a movement even if it take decades for his/her words to sink in. Sometimes just a few passionate people are needed to awaken the world. Sometimes they start a mass movement and millions follow them, millions who are stirred up by the same outrage or the same idea and their charge comes upon us like a change of weather. All transformation were imaginary to begin with, they merely represented a hope. To hope is to gamble, to take a chance on the future, on your desires, on the possibility that it is better to have an open heart and lead a life of uncertainty then to lead a gloomy and safe one. Hope is dangerous and yet it is the opposite of fear, for life is in itself a risk.

The ‘Big Hug’ and the future of Jerusalem

The sting of all problems between Israeli and Palestinians lays in the Old City of Jerusalem. Her status has to be solved in such a way, that all parties fighting for control over her can agree upon.

On June 24, the ‘Big Hug’ will be hold in Jerusalem. Light workers from Israel, Palestine and from all over the world, ‘Lovers of Jerusalem’, will come together to bring warmth and energy to this city, embracing holding hands the Old City. If we bundle all our positive energies and bring these to Jerusalem, we can create peace to this exceptional place.

We are organizing the Big Hug to make the people aware –especially the Israeli and Palestinian inhabitants of Jerusalem- that there is a very shaped perspective for the city of Jerusalem as a city of peace: a new, undivided Jerusalem, as the capital of Palestine, Israel and at large.

Let go of the conflict concerning her command and dedicate the city to the Omnipresent. The Old City as a whole is His Temple. To give the walled Old City free to God, as a "Status Apart”, as an independent city, will be the most feasible way to come out the current impasse.

The Old City of Jerusalem must become an open city; a House of Prayer for all the Peoples. This perspective is written down in the Holy Books, this is the perspective we, as ‘Lovers of Jerusalem’ embrace as well as solution. But how many people does already notice this hopeful point of view?

What I saw in Jerusalem and also everywhere else where I meet Islamic and Jewish people is, that not so many persons really think about a future for Jerusalem. Most of the time, they stick with old ideas that the Old City of Jerusalem will always remain a part of Israel, or in opposite, that it will be absolutely a part of a new Palestinian state, as stolen land that has to be given back. With these visions, a future Jerusalem will be a divided city with an East Palestinian and West Israeli part, with barbed wire and checkpoints in between, like the situation of the city from 1948-1967. Or, coming closer to an agreement, people suggest -like proposed in the “Geneva Accord” in 2003- to make a complicated dividing of the Old City in a Israeli and Palestinian part. That will mean that the small alleys will be split by walls and barriers too. The idea that a future Jerusalem will become a divided city, is something that we have to prevent.

There are living about 250.000 Palestinian and 500.000 Israeli rather close together in one city. Do they want to make a separation of Jerusalem in parts or do they choose, deep in their hearts, for unity? So my best friends, it is our task to inform the whole city that there is an alternative for the Jerusalem of today.

All lovers of a united Jerusalem will come together to encircle and embrace the Old City of Jerusalem with love and devotion. We have to encourage all inhabitants of Jerusalem to join the coming Big Hug, with the idea of a New Jerusalem that might be realized with their support.

Hi Yael
please i turning to u and all israeli peace activist friends to extend there hands to help in following human call,
Abed
