JStreet's phenomenally inspiring Conference in Washington DC

Not only did I get a chance to connect with MEPeace.org founder Eyal Raviv, but I also met Mitchel Plitnick and other peace activist writers at the 2nd annual JStreet convention at the Washington Convention Center in Washington DC. The first day's session, Saturday, featured many inspirational presentations including by JStreet President Jeremy Ben-Ami and by award recipients that included journalist Peter Beinart, Israeli activist for Palestinian rights in Sheikh Jarrah Sara Benninga and…

The Head of State vs. The Man on the Street

Mohammed Bouazizi was an educated young man, from Sidi Abu Zeid, a small town in Tunisia, who entered the job market that had no jobs. To support his mother and sister, he undertook, without a license, to sell vegetables on the street. When the authorities confiscated his vegetable cart, insulted him, and refused to hear his grievances, he proceeded to set himself on fire, and in due course, to set the entire Middle East ablaze.

What does Mohammed’s act of self-immolation mean? It… Continue

Mabruk to all of the heroes of the Egyptian Revolution!

I hope and pray that this will be the preamble to a new age in the middle east in which we, the people, will stand up and demand our rights, including our right to live in peace with one another and to love each.  I dream that one day soon my father will be able to sit at a table with my children's grandmother, may they both live love and healthy lives, and break bread together and watch their grandchildren play.  Insha'allah - be'ezrat hashem - God willing.

Kol ha-Kavod to the youth and people of Egypt and Tunisia!

Any system you contrive without us

     will be brought down

We warned you before

and nothing that you built has stood

Hear it as you lean over your blueprint

     Hear it once again:

Any system you contrive without us

     will be brought down.

You have your drugs

You have your guns

You have your Pyramids

     your Pentagons

With all your grass and…

Lawyer suing Jimmy Carter and Simon & Schuster speaks out

A few days ago I wrote on what many consider an attack on Freedom of Speech in a piece entitled, $5 million lawsuit filed against Jimmy Carter's book in NY.

The litigants claim—as part of the "reading public"—that they've been harmed because President Jimmy Carter's non-fiction book,  "Palestine: Peace, Not Apartheid", was…

A class action lawsuit has just been filed in New York against former U.S. President Jimmy Carter for his 2006 book, "Palestine: Peace, Not Apartheid." The suit, captioned Unterberg et al. v. Jimmy Carter et al., is the latest salvo from the…
