A True Story By Faisal Al-kateep
I am a Palestinian Arab from Hizmeh, a village between Jerusalem and Ramallah. When I was 15 years old I fought against the Israeli Occupation in search of freedom. At that time I thought every Jewish person, whether soldier or citizen, man or woman, young or old, should be killed. I rejected the right for any Jew to live and every Jew was a target. I was just a kid, believe me, and I didn’t understand anything about politics or the Arab-Israeli conflict. I was arrested and sat in jail for 12 years. This was during the first intifada from 1987. At that time nobody talked about peace but only of violence. I matured during my time in jail. I started studying and reading books on politics, literature, poetry, and about the Madrid Conference.
It gave me hope to live in peace and dignity. I learned that violence only breeds violence and that peace is the only solution for the two nations, the only way for both to have a respectful and beautiful future. We live on the same land. We are neighbors. We drink the same water and both pray to a monotheistic God. We must live in peace on the basis of religion for God and land for everyone.

I have read your blog and Larry's comment. what people must understand is - by blocking Gaza's borders we (Israel) are serving Hamas' , who is using the tunnels to bring in any kind of food (and else) to sell in exorbitant prices.

Have you been able to work with any Palestinian craftsmen/women in your shop?
There are so many looking for markets to eek out a living.
I met some in Hebron, others in Jerusalem and know about others in Bethlehem.
I bet there are people on this site that could plug you in if they are not the artisans themselves.

Jacques-Yves Cousteau (11 June 1910 – 25 June 1997)
French naval officer, explorer, ecologist, filmmaker, innovator,
scientist, photographer, author and researcher who studied the sea
and all forms of life in water.
He co-developed the aqua-lung (Feb 3, 1943), pioneered marine
conservation and was a member of the Académie française.
By the ones he touched... he will always be loved....
and lifted in our hearts to the heavens...
as "le Commandant Cousteau"...

A small Green Sea Turtle was found along a rock wall
near the Dive In dive center in Key Largo,
completely covered with thick, black oil.
The baby turtle was rescued, using mayonnaise
(which dissolves the oil without harming the turtle)

Immeasurable beauty lives where dolphins swim free...
We are so blessed to experience life
on such a beautiful planet...
Although, blind to her beauty....
industrial giants profit as they destroy
the loving whales alive...
and dolphins now swim in their toxic cocktails...
If we do not defend the Living Oceans
from the industrial profiteers,
who will...
How can we be so blind... to so much beauty...
For all of time....
and the infinite universe...
we only have ONE planet...
I like your interessand activities. I'm now in Chicago, a wdower, researchng alternatve approaches to Palestinian-Israeli Coexistence, and plan to attend the Toronto June Conference on One State/Two States. Mght we meet then, or before?
I also like actng and singing. I hope you have snow tires; many in Chicago don't, in contrast to the Hudson Valley.
