A True Story By Faisal Al-kateep
I am a Palestinian Arab from Hizmeh, a village between Jerusalem and Ramallah. When I was 15 years old I fought against the Israeli Occupation in search of freedom. At that time I thought every Jewish person, whether soldier or citizen, man or woman, young or old, should be killed. I rejected the right for any Jew to live and every Jew was a target. I was just a kid, believe me, and I didn’t understand anything about politics or the Arab-Israeli conflict. I was arrested and sat in jail for 12 years. This was during the first intifada from 1987. At that time nobody talked about peace but only of violence. I matured during my time in jail. I started studying and reading books on politics, literature, poetry, and about the Madrid Conference.
It gave me hope to live in peace and dignity. I learned that violence only breeds violence and that peace is the only solution for the two nations, the only way for both to have a respectful and beautiful future. We live on the same land. We are neighbors. We drink the same water and both pray to a monotheistic God. We must live in peace on the basis of religion for God and land for everyone
Hi Rachel!
Thanks for the add! :)
I noticed that you are originally from Scotland, and would be interested in hearing your experience as a Jew growing up there.
So you must have a Scottish accent :) How did your family end up there?
I am always interested in meeting Jews from all over the world, especially from places where you do not meet a lot from.
Take Care
Blessings
Stephanie :)
I am looking for people like yourself and other groups in Palestine/Israel to synchronize efforts with a group of Jews and Muslims in Seattle Washington to bring about Peace with security and dignity.
to investigate into your quest is not easy one, you need to get out of your shell and have a look from higher perspective - humanistic that accept that different people have different views of reality.
From this perspective you see less terrorists and more "resistance" where some of then are aggressive and others seek way to resist what they experience as occupation. the different sides we have cause many people to follow aggressive resistance and it is not rational - as the Hamas rockets on Israel are not rational since Israel army abilities and the different situation from Lebanon make Israel advantage so clear we can recognize that the motives were not rational and assumed "Arab reaction" or "world protection" that is clearly not existed.
About the Gaza control, Israel left Gaza but continue to control the passages and the resources as electricity, water, food etc. so Israel continue to dectate what is going on in Gaza and when Hamas was acting no as the Israel Government wished, Israel simply reduce the resources to minimum. while in the West Bank Israel created road blocks and was visible by settlers and army, In Gaza you have Israel control the amount of food, fuel and electricity you can consume. This is how Israel continue to occupy Gaza by means of occupying the roots of supply.
1) Gazans cannot be serious to have their own country, internal Palestinian depute on goverment cause a split of FATAH and HAMAS that created a civil war ended with Hamas government in Gaza and FATAH government in West Bank. This caused Gaza future to be unclear and with the occupation of resources the Hamas invested to establish it role of "Palestinian resistance" leader due the internal conflict.
2) I do not understand the phrase "peace loving Gazan" the experience of Gazans is to be abused by Hamas and Israel ... who a Gazan can experience peace in that conditions?
