Event Description

The topic of the first mepeace.org Chat Workshop will be: Communication, Dialogue and Conflict Resolution

In an open atmosphere, the participants, together with the chat moderators, will tackle questions and problems around effective dialogue in potentially conflictual environments.
Among the questions that will require consideration:

+ How can people be involved ?

+ What are the constraints to effective communication and dialogue ?
+ How does communication through dialogue help in approaching the 'other' ?
+ How does communication/dialogue help us to learn about the 'other' ?
+ Can effective communication leading to honest and serious peace efforts at the 'micro-level' one day work as a blueprint for political/diplomatic efforts ?
+ How can we learn to actually listen to each other instead of preaching and lecturing ?

The workshop will be held according to the schedule below:

SCHEDULE
8pm-8.15pm A brief introduction of the topic, moderators and participants
Moderators will introduce themselves, the participants as well. There'll also be a topic introduction by moderators.
8.15pm-8.30pm Initial thoughts on the topic by each participant
Each participant will be able to share their initial thoughts on the topic freely without any outer comment.
8.30pm–9.00pm Open debate on the leading questions (see above)
Every participant will be able to refer to those questions and contribute to open debate.
9pm-9.20pm Sharing experiences in a conflictual context (regarding Middle East conflict or other)
Participants will be free to share their experiences especially about where/when effective communication helped in conflict resolution or where/when it did not due to lack of communication and dialogue.
9.20pm-9.30pm Final statements by participants and moderators
Participants will be able to give a final statement and say if the workshop met their expectations or not.

Am I correct in thinking that this chat is scheduled to have started five minutes ago? I can't figure out where to go to participate... or how. Anyone out there who can clarify this for me? Thanks!
