JOB TITLE: Project Coordinator, Jordan River Rehabilitation Project, Friends of the Earth Middle East's Bethlehem Office


Friends of the Earth Middle East (FoEME) is a unique organization that brings together Jordanian, Palestinian, and Israeli environmentalists. Our primary objective is the promotion of cooperative efforts to protect our shared environmental heritage. In so doing, we seek to advance both sustainable regional development and the creation of necessary conditions for lasting peace in our region. FoEME has offices in Amman, Bethlehem, and Tel-Aviv. FoEME is a member of Friends of the Earth International, the largest grassroots environmental organization in the world.



Under the Direction of the FoEME Bethlehem Director, the Project Coordinator for the Jordan River Rehabilitation Project oversees all aspects of the project including coordinating with local and regional consultants, coordinating local and regional stakeholder-participants, developing strategic action plans to advance project aims, outreach/ coordination with members of the Palestinian Legislative Council and government ministers, local and international media outreach, project reporting and other duties as necessary.  Furthermore s/he will contribute to other organizational projects as necessary.




All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  • Masters degree is required in Water, Environment, Sustainable Development, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Written and spoken English and Arabic fluency is mandatory.  Fluency in Hebrew is an advantage.
  • At least 2 years expertise in the environmental field or community development, understanding of regional water policies.  Grassroots community organizing experience is a benefit.
  • Ability to travel all over the West Bank, Israel, Jordan, and if needed, Gaza.
  • Excellent inter-personal and leadership skills are required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask.
  • Motivated for cross border activities, including peace building and environmental activities. Experience working in a cross-border/multilateral framework is an advantage.
  • A deep understanding of Middle East politics and peace process issues is required.
  • Can demonstrate through actions undertaken a deep commitment to environmental causes.
  • Good writing skills are necessary.
  • Resident of the Bethlehem area or willingness to move and settle in Bethlehem.
