All reasonable people should have no problem with a one or two state solution provided that this is the desire of both Israelis and Palestinians. The ingredients for either solution must be based on mutual trust and an end to terror from either side. Only in this way can one debate seriously and sincerely as to which route to take. Obviously, therer should be mutual recognition and an end to dividing walls, checkposts and all the rest of the obstacles to peace. Hamas must also change its attitude and be prepared for dialogue with Israel and cease its hostile activity which brings so much misery to both sides of the conflict.

As far as I know, the two-state solution lied on Israel's hand and now the ball is in Israel's court. In order not to have its ties ruined with the whole world, Israel has to give as many as of concessions such as stop its settlements expansion activity, lift the siege on Gaza, destroy the aparthied wall, and so on. Hope Israel becomes committed to doing all these things.

Now that Bibi Netanyahu has made it clear that he is against the two-state solution, the only alternative is a one state solution. It is not the one-state solution that Bibi envisages which is autonomy "Bantustan-style" of apartheid South Africa of the past(which was a total failure). Here Bibi's purpose is to divide and rule keeping the Palestinians in a sort of vassel state that is "economically better off" using his words. This is a total contradiction and will never be achieved.

A binational democratic state for both Israeli and Palestinians where there is equal rights and justice for both peoples as well as total integration could be a solution. The obstacle however is whether both Israelis and Palestinians would accept this taking into account the cultural and religious differences between the two peoples. Will both peoples be prepared to compromise and help build a new state for the good of both peoples?

I see one state as my vision for just and peaceful life in Isra-Palestine. I'd be more careful in saying it is the only sustainable answer to the conflict. Solutions should be seen as tools in order to achieve higher goals, such as justice, peace, sustainable life, etc.
I also want to invite you all to a seminar about a bi-national state and social justice, organized by Tarabut- Hithabrut (which I'm a member of), this Saturday in Jaffa.
Maa-Salam, Youval

Hey there, I so concerned here . How come a lot of people in this website commented on what Mr. Burg said about the federation solution & the one state solution; and none of them joined this group. I hope that people can be more honest with themselves.
