During my teens I decided not to join the military, after a long and cumbersome process I petitioned at the supreme court with a request for an "alternative" 3 years volunteering job, without learning to use a gun or wearing uniform.
Following a long legal battle I found myself in army prison for a short period of time (22 days) after which the army exempted me on a random clause.
Why I want peace:
I believe it should be the "natural state", one people should be born into - a state of freedom, health and compassion.
The dire economic situation throughout the West Bank severely impacts the Palestinian population and its quality of life. The barriers and checkpoints between the Palestinian villages and towns exacerbate these difficulties and seriously diminish people's ability to move around, receive health and medical care, study in the university and access employment. The weaker sectors in Palestinian society are the most seriously impacted, among them poverty-stricken farmers whose livelihood has been significantly damaged as the Occupation confiscates their lands and the Jewish settlers systematically uproot their olive trees.
Abed, a Palestinian peace and women's-rights activist, organizes and coordinates deliveries of olive oil produced by needy Palestinian families, at the price of 40 NIS per liter. He ! can be reached at 0546-723184, or 0599-798319

Thanks for the add! :)
That's awsome that you had the courage to refuse and not serve in the army! Were you able to do the volunteer service afterwords?
It's a shame that the volunteer service is only limited to the Orthodox Jews + females (If I am correct, females have a lot easier time refusing not to serve in the army). Military is not for everyone.
That's cool that you work for No Sweat-- my school is trying to invest in them.
That's cool that you are a vegan. I am on the road to being one (I don't drink milk or dairy products).
