I've been engaged in service among peoples of the Middle East since 1971. I lived in Lebanon and Egypt for most of the period from 1971-1985, and since then have worked in non-profit program advancement and community education from my base in the Seattle, WA, area. Apart from local NW activities I help connect Americans and indigenous Middle Eastern organizations that engage in peacebuilding, nonviolence, "compassionate listening" and other means of moving from being "enemies" to "good neighbors" to perhaps even being "friends".
Why I want peace:
Shalom/Salaam/Peace is the core need of every person, in the most wholistic sense. Peace in the Middle East is a key to peace in the larger global context. And I have friends on all sides of "the conflict" who I care for. My tax dollars already inextricably involve me, so why stand on the sidelines?
Interests and activities:
Listenting to and making music, watching sprint car racing, walking my dog, hanging out with family and friends, discovering new things, walking the NW beaches, visiting the Middle East and taking others with me on journeys of learning.
I would really like to see "Little Town of Bethlehem," so please do let me know when / where else it's playing in the Seattle area. I'll be back from the honeymoon on Oct 3, so anytime after that will be great. Just let me know. Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you at the October meeting! ~ Blessings, Cathy
Thank you very much for passing along the information about your monthly meetings in Lynwood. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend until October, as I am actually getting married in two weeks and then will be on my honeymoon until early October, so I have a thousand things to do between now and then. I'm sorry I missed you all last night, but I'm sure it was a great conversation. Blessings to you, and I hope to meet you soon! ~ Cathy
