Interfaith Freedom Seder -- Sydney -- April 24, 2008

"No one is free when others are oppressed." [Source: Unknown]

This Interfaith Freedom Seder marking Pesach was held in Sydney by the Jews for Social Action (JSA) group of the North Shore Temple Emanuel. Jews, Moslems and Christians shared a Seder evening at Donna Jabobs' home. Donna put together a secular Freedom Haggadah with quotations and emphasis on the…

Drop by drop, we can change the world.

I heard this read the other day and it brought me to tears. Hope is a hard thing to come by and I struggle everyday with the feelings that I need to do more - be more. This reminded me that drop by drop, small efforts DO matter.

A Tiny Drop of Water

Author: Bob Perks

A tiny drop of water washed away the land and buildings fell, floating away with other people's dreams.

Roadways planned and formed by huge machines and men who sweat and hammer the world into… Continue

How did the human race appear?

A little girl asked her mother, "How did the human race appear?"

The mother answered, "God made Adam and Eve and they had children and so was all mankind made."

Two days later the girl asked her father the same question.

The father answered, "Many years ago there were monkeys from which the human race evolved."

The confused girl returned to her mother and said, "Mom, how is it possible that you told me the human race was… Continue

To All Jews Where Ever They May Be, Happy Pesach BUT.....

This week it occurs that Jews in Israel and all over the world are celebrating the pesach, the question that always cross by my mind during the Jews celebrating festivals is that "Is it necessary for a Jew to celebrate his festival with delight, that the life of thousands of Palestinians would be affected by more closures and "security procurements"?

During the Jews festival times, if a Palestinian intends to move out of his city or village for some reason, then he should count in… Continue

A Secular Narrative of Jewish History == By Robert Wolfe

[Comment: The writer, Robert Wolfe, is a secular Jew. His relatively brief, 3,500 word condensed, Jewish History is a worthwhile read even (or especially) for those who are experts. The related discussion.and Q&A is Jewish History: What you (want to) know about it. PmR]

I Have A Dream!

Yes, dear friends, in the familiar words of Martin Luther King Jr. "I have a dream." My dream is that somewhere out there someone will emerge with the vision of a world living in harmony rather than always being at war. I have a dream that some young man or woman will come out of the woodwork who will have the creativity and imagination to see that the only way for our world to survive is to live in peace. I am ninety years old and have had this dream for many years but I have always been… Continue

War etc.

To be able to live with myself I must express my views on war and why we continue to have wars with all of their terrible consequences. Just why is that we continue to have these disastrous wars every few years? Some psychologists have argued that while human temperament allows wars to occur, they only do so when mentally unbalanced men are in control of a nation. This extreme school of thought argues leaders that seek war such as Napoleon, Hitler, and Stalin were mentally abnormal. Perhaps… Continue

Why I Am A Pacifist

by Earl J. Prignitz

For several hundred years following the death of Christ, there is absolutely no question that his followers were certain that he had forbidden war. As a result of many Christians refusal to participate in war they suffered the consequences of imprisonment and/or death. These facts are indisputable. A learned writer of the seventeenth century said, "It is as easy to obscure the sun at mid-day, as to deny that the primitive Christians renounced all revenge and… Continue
