Introducing the Israeli-Palestinian Comedy Tour

I helped co-found the Israeli-Palestinian Comedy Tour in November 2007 so that Palestinians and Israelis could actually come together on a comedy stage and use humor to help change the hardened attitudes of Palestinians, Arabs, Israelis and Jews about each other. The Israeli partners include Charley Warady and Yisrael Campbell. And the group includes Aaron Freeman, who is an African American Jew living in Chicago where I live.

While there are several groups that partner Palestinians… Continue

Which Israel on Film is Real? You Choose

This blog can also be found at my own weblog.

There is so much chaos in Israel and Palestine right now politically and in terms of peace and violence that it is hard for those of us who know them intimately to keep it all in perspective. For today I just ask you to choose which Israel. I thought I had seen everything. Here is a scene of a senior Israel Defense Forces commander ordering a soldier to shoot at close range a bound… Continue

Continue

The Soldier and The Terrorist: A Conversation

Most of us know, deep in our gut, that terrorism—the use of force against innocent civilians for the sake of political advantage—is wrong. But proving that is often more difficult than it first seems. The following hypothetical conversation is a case in point.

Soldier: I can’t believe you guys; strapping on suicide bombs and blowing up innocent civilians. Have you no shame, no sense of decency?

Terrorist: I can’t believe you guys; strapping on your seatbelts… Continue

Tell Israel's Housing Minister: The settlements are our business, too!

Hi everyone on mepeace!

I wanted to let you all know about a new initiative being done by Meretz USA (the lovely progressive Jewish, and progressive Zionist non-profit organization based out of New York City). For many years now the progressive Jewish community has been focusing their activism and energy on US foreign policy in an effort to halt the major influence that right-wing Jewish groups like AIPAC have. This grassroots effort in America… Continue

Reflection on the 63rd Anniversary of USA Terrorism+A Revolution of Love

“You cannot talk like sane men around a peace table while the atomic bomb itself is ticking beneath it. Do not treat the atomic bomb as a weapon of offense; do not treat it as an instrument of the police. Treat the bomb for what it is: the visible insanity of a civilization that has obey the laws of life.”- Lewis Mumford, 1946

"In all of earth’s sixty-five-million-year history, we are living in the most dangerous of times. The fact that a bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and… Continue

Breaking bread: The shared meal

Some may feel that the Peace Cafe and similar ideas that are beginning to arise out of are inferior solutions to peace and the entire situation in the middle east, particularly in regards to those direct stakeholders in Palestinian and Israeli issues. Basically -- sitting around a table in a cafe and talking simply aren't enough.

I disgree strongly.

To me, Peace Cafe represents the deepest reality of a shared feast, the breaking of bread, the bringing of the… Continue

Corruption in Israel

We are now in the post Zionist era of Israel’s development. There are those people who view the post Zionist period in Israel’s development as the period when Zionism has ceased to be relevant. The conclusion that one reaches is that the rot has set into Israel’s corridors of power and influence. This rot filters down from the ex- President, Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, “run of the mill” party political hacks, who are Knesset Members, and directors of government departments. The rot… Continue

A gift in the world: Children

I have learned that the world is full of gifts.

Gifts cannot be earned or bought -- or they are not gifts!

But a gift must often be sought for. A journey must be taken. If you wish for the gift of the view at the top of Mt. Everest, you must climb the mountain. You cannot stay at the bottom, and still hope for the gift.

I would like to blog about gifts -- gifts that everyone may have no matter who they are or where they are at in their life. Today I will think… Continue
