There is a great deal of discussion in today’s news regarding the recent conciliation between Israel and Turkey. Behind the news is the fact that the agreement is part of a process that dates back to the days of the old testament.
The ancient Israelites were known to have…

The most common question that I am asked by friends, relatives, and visitors is “why can’t Israel and the Palestinians live together in Peace”? This region has suffered turmoil for thousands of years often centering on religious issues. The conflicts within Judaism, Christianity and Islam can be as strident as those between the groups in our region. This is the first of two posts…Continue
From my favorite pub in Haifa, the Kapiot Café, where I am writing this post, I am enjoying the beautiful view of the Namal or port. My coauthor Danit Tubi comes from a family whose roots are in Istanbul. They immigrated to Israel at the time of the rebirth of the Jewish homeland in 1948. She quips that our namal has certainly changed since her grandparents landed sixty five years ago. The port is laden with shipping both commercial and pleasure…Continue

The Baha'i World Center is located in Haifa, and the glorious Baha'i Gardens that surround the Shrine with its golden dome are a major addition to the natural beauty of the city. The Gardens are maintained by a group of young volunteers, Baha'i who come from all over the world to perform a year or more of service at the Center, often before beginning university. They and other volunteers are housed in a number of residential…Continue
I just completed a wonderful visit to Jerusalem for the Hanukkah holiday. It is still a thrill each time that I tour the holiest and most fascinating city on earth. My home is in Haifa, but the City of Gold is just a two hour bus ride from my front door. The news today in our region sounds promising. Will Israel and its Palestinian neighbors live together in peace? Let us hope that indeed is the case. Jerusalem is an important issue. The story is designed to…Continue

I just finished dining at the exquisite Hotel Dan Panorama buffet in my home of Haifa. One of the managers is a Catholic born resident of this wonderful city. His family came to Haifa nearly one hundred and fifty years ago from Italy. We talked about the recent headlines which referred to a proposed visit by Pope Francis in March of 2014. The purpose of this post is to inform the readers about the history of relations…Continue

I want to thank the members of mepeace.org for reading my posts. Hopefully, they will learn that many people in this region are making efforts to promote peace through dialogue and friendship. Political negotiations are occurring again in this area to end strife and bloodshed that dates back for centuries. My personal opinion is that activities and efforts like those in this documentary are the best answer. It is about my experiences as a newcomer to Haifa and participation in…Continue

The Ego Food and Coffee in the world famous Dan Panorama Hotel Mall is my favorite place in Haifa to eat Cinnamon rolls and sip an occasional vodka and diet coke. The cafe is…

In his recent speech at Bar-Ilan, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu repeated his passionate claim – the occupation is not the root cause of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He stated that the process by which the conflict started in actual fact in 1921 on the day on which the Palestinian Arabs attacked the immigration…Continue
Is peace in this region possible? I wish that the answer was a certain yes.
However, Jews, Christians, Muslims, and others do live together pretty well in home of Haifa. There are efforts made by thousands of people of various faiths in our area to achieve this goal. I urge everyone to learn about the efforts of The Focolare, the largest Catholic outreach movement in the world to promote dialogue in the Middle East and…

Caesarea is a small, very well-to-do town and extensive archaeological site on the Mediterranean coast of Israel, located some 50 km north of Tel Aviv. It is a town devoted to tourism and to luxurious living. There is a luxury hotel, a vacation village, miles of sandy beaches, and a series of attractive restaurants, galleries and boutiques. Visitors marvel at its extraordinary archaeological attractions, not least of which is the Roman Theater where concerts, entertainment extravaganzas…Continue

My greatest joy in living in the city of Haifa is the peaceful coexistence of its citizens. The city is also beautiful. It is on the Mediterranean with a tayelet or boardwalk and an active commercial port.
Haifa is a city dotted with gardens. The most prominent is at the world center of the …Continue
Once again our region is exploding in turmoil. However, there is a side of life in Israel and Palestine that does not get enough attention in the media. I am blessed to live in Haifa which earns it title as The City of Peaceful Coexistence. I wrote this story last fall and want to share it with the members of Mepeace.
The recent round of warfare in our South with Gaza was depressing in that it had to begin. There had not been any political way of getting the Hamas to stop firing…Continue
