At Annapolis!

I went Annapolis today rallying for peace! This was part of my US tour promoting mepeace.org. It is reassuring to see people supporting peace in the United States.

Some of today's sights and sounds: Activists who came from Washington and New York to rally for peace. Neturei Karta Jews screaming for no state. Orthodox Jews yelling at the Neturei Karta. Annapolis police and security and Navy personel securing the Naval Academy. Americans… Continue

mepeace in America, and around the world!

Two days ago I arrived in the US to visit family and advance mepeace.org. Productive meetings open new avenues and help me realize the universality of our quest of peace. Looking forward, we stop to take a breath and appreciate that we have touched and been touched by peacemakers in more than 70 countries (colored in the image above).

mepeace at the Knesset, again!

This week, mepeace was inside the Knesset (Israel's parliament) once again. MK Amir Peretz, former leader of the Labor party who served as Minister of Defense until earlier this year, heard about mepeace and the work of our peacemakers. In our meeting, Peretz quickly grasped the potential for a network for peacemakers and blessed our initiative and work. In our meeting, I shared with Peretz my life story and dream of a platform for peacemakers which will enable people to associate… Continue

12 years to the day!

I remember where I was when I heard the Yitzhak Rabin, was shot! A woman from the street ran into the lobby of the building on the 34th street (in midtown Manhattan). She shouted that the Prime Minister of Israel had been shot" (she did not know then he was dead). What a shock!

Last night I was shocked again. I participated in the annual rally of remembrance in Tel Aviv's Rabin Square. There were thousands. Many young people! The feeling was… Continue

"The time has come to choose"

"Olmert, it's time to choose" and "Yes to an agreement" make up the title of a new public relations campaign for peace, launched this morning in Tel Aviv. Peace Now and the Geneva Initiative joined forces to create and launch this campaign, at a cost of nearly one million shekels ($250,000). The campaign seeks to seize the peace initiative in the lead-up to the Annapolis peace summit.

I was at the press conference to launch the campaign and I… Continue

Masik - Wow!!

I participated in the "Masik", olive harvesting, for the first time yesterday! For several weeks every year, olives are ready for harvest. The harvest is season short, and the challenge is great! Palestinians want to harvest their olves in peace. Their efforts are too often stymied by the interference of settlers.

So a coalition developed to help Palestinians harvest their olive groves. Teams of Israelis go out to different Palestinian… Continue

90 years ago exactly - The Balfour Declaration

Ninety years ago today, Lord Balfour (see picture) penned the following declaration. I wanted to share my thoughts on this document.

First, the letter is written to Lord Rothschild. It is a letter addressed to a private person, not 'the Jewish people', but a letter that addresses their aspirations. Second, notice that the declaration was submitted and approved by the Cabinet. Declarations are not submitted. Proposals are. The declaration, or news, is in fact the acceptance… Continue
