What does it mean? What are the ways?

Is violence the only way for resistance?

Is when the word of resistance appear that means running in a circle of blood and revenge?

I am a Palestinian and I work hard for my case and I RESIST, yes I resist but not by violating the other side and making it even harder for all of us who are living in the region.

I resist by showing so clearly that I am a human being and a proud Palestinian who can live in peace and who in turn deserve to be given his own and independent state.

I resist by asking to stop the blood, and by asking for my rights. To interact and to know, to explore and to discover, to see the other side of the coin and to deal with all people on the basis of humanity.

I do so by asking to end the occupation and to remove the checkpoints in a way that wont lead us to drown into another circle of violence and attacks, and which in turn will lock us into an endless war.

And at last but not at least to recognize the other who I am dealing with and asking to practice my rights with.

I resist by awareness and education, by building bridges and using the ~power of logic not the logic of power~

I am resisting by standing in the face of separation and physical- mental segregation made by some persons in authority, and decisions makers, who are interested in keeping us there for their own benefits and interests.

Am I as a person because I’m asking to stop the blood and to make a better future for us in a society where we all can live and develop in, being an ignorant for my people and my case?

I resist but not with violence and sure not by revenge, I resist the blood sheds that I have been witnessing since I came to this life, I want to serve my people by creating a safe environment for them and a better future for our children, and to work for that.

I love you Palestine and by making peace I am not forgetting your history neither I am making it less important.

Hi Hibna,

A truly remarkable post! Its simplicity and message is so logical and comes straight from the heart. I share your sentiments fully and all I can say is: INSHALLAH!

"I wish the civilian community of Israel and Palestine will declare 2009 as a year of progress and create new agenda of non-violence and commitment to solve the Palestinian-Israeli condition in a way that will free this people of Palestine to create a state entity that can share the wealth and good that the Israelis enjoy and be able to work together into the light of our mutual future."

Neri - this is a fantastic idea.

Why not declare 2009 as the
"mepeace year of building peaceful coexistence"?
(or something....)

Dear John,

Thank you for this remark since I was not sure it is appropriate to bring this video here as it expresses the opposite of what Hiba say in this post.

I also was afraid that some people will take this images and assume this is what all the Palestinian support; here I hope that Hiba's answer clarify that this is not the case.

About this kind of resistance, I can understand the logic of it, but do not accept is objectives and I know there are better ways. Actually that the road to get something from Israel is from its heart as there are many Israelis who recognize the Palestinians conditions and recognize that with whole of Israel wish to be moral, we are involved with this conflict and we impose hardship on a community of millions. The conflict will not be resolved if this Aggression stop, we need much more change within Israel as we need the conscious of the Israeli to be more influential on the Israeli government.

The government declared 2008 as a year of peace agreement and did not deliver, I wish the civilian community of Israel and Palestine will declare 2009 as a year of progress and create new agenda of non-violence and commitment to solve the Palestinian-Israeli condition in a way that will free this people of Palestine to create a state entity that can share the wealth and good that the Israelis enjoy and be able to work together into the light of our mutual future.

Mary,

you call moderate damage to a families who lost its child?

The facts that more Palestinians Babies die is no excuse to any baby to die, no moter if his mother is Jewish or Palestinian.

do not justify any one from sending qassams, and if you read what Hams is planning you will see that it is not the whole thing and Hams is seeking to get stronger weapons, and this is why Gaza is under a Seige. and look for the North of Israel, is Hizbulla is a moderate damage too for you.

"What exactly are you saying here. The Palestinians never in history had a State so therefore this is the cause and a State will remedy that violence and bloodshed?" Well Sigal we are here so what do you suggest? Why you deserve a free state while we don't? And tell me why do you think that some Palestinians are acting like that? they think that this way will force Israel to give them their freedom and their free land. it is not that I support killing civilians but that's a part of the problem that we have.

Despite what some might explain my words here, I can say it again that awareness and recognition while realizing the rights that we have will make something for us.

Mary this might answer some of what your are debating on.

would note that to solve the issue we need to look at the roots of it, the problem is not only checkpoints and not only the violence responses from some Palestinians, or operations of IDF members in Palestinian territories, it goes back to a matter of lack of fair where the state of Israel was established on the account of Palestinians, and since then Palestinians loose and loose more, for anybody to look at the overall situation now he will recognize that over that period things got worst and worst, both sides were negatively affected to a certain degree, the more were the Palestinians, since they don't have a state and more over they are occupied, they have some kind of limited authorities over some cities, they don't even have a concrete land to govern or to live in.

Mary,

Why to you say "It has been demonstrated again and again that Palestinians resort only in extremely remote situations to violent resistance"

I do not know if you know Arabic, but about demonstration here is example:

Mary,

I live here and I know what costs we are paying now, it is not wrong to search for different ways, I am not making what Palestinians did so far not of importance and I dont know what you mean by " and you also seem to avoid my affermation that the Palestinian violence that you refer to is so minimally proportioned in comparison to that they have to bear from Israelis, that you are handing the Israelis some of their "grievances" on a silver platter."
How did you reach to such conclusion?
Comment by Hiba on August 28, 2008 at 2:26pm
Dear Mary,

I didnt open a discussion I expressed the way I feel and I envision this issue in a blog post.

Maybe I dont have much written materials as you do but that doesnt necessary make the things that I write less important neither that makes me an evasive.

All of us start from somewhere.

Be well,

Hiba
