Crowdfunding Campaign - Dance in Palestine: Spotlight on the Differently Abled

Yante spearheads this international dance production in collaboration with the Abu Rayya Rehabiliation Center, Dance Ability Mexico and Tareq Abboushi

Youth, Art & Levante of Palestine are giving center stage to the Differently Abled working with choreographer Maria Arroyo Menendez, director of Dance Ability Mexico and Palestinian/American Composer Tareq Abboushi. This performance gives the spotlight to some of the normally marginalized elements of society providing the stage for the wheelchair bound working in conjunction with Palestinian dancers in this international collaboration. Through intensive training over 2 months the 'dancers' physical, emotional and cognitive processes transform self-perception and challenge the stereotypes and prejudices of the audience at large.

The world premier is in Ramallah in the West Bank of the Occupied Territories, Palestine. The setting and the performers offer a new narrative for a fragmented and marginalized society rebuilding identities through creative processes. Working with the differently abled under such circumstances sends a strong message of the resiliency of the individual's, and the community's, ability to transform personal and collective trauma, transcending conflict and, in turn, offering the world a message that in the most adversarial conditions there is a common ground for humanity which can flourish through the performance arts.

We appeal to all of you who have been touched and blessed to know someone whose physical capacities are different than the norm, to those of you who understand the complexity of the situation in Palestine and wish to support creative non-violent solutions to a seemingly intractable political situation, and to those of you who simply love the arts and dance. Your support to help us bring this performance to the stage, with the highest professional standards, will serve as testament to the world that there is a solidarity among all people working toward establishing the playground of our commonalities where the wall between self and other is being dismantled in the name of peace, piece by piece
