...just a couple more hours to go in 2009. At 00.00 not only a year, but, too, a decade will end. For us, a community hungry for peace, the outgoing decade wasn't a good one. Too many chances were left unused, too many lives lost - not only in the Middle East but in other conflict areas as well, and often to an even greater extent.
We have therefore enough reasons to keep up our work as dedicated peacemakers and advocates of a secure, war-free world. Let's start 2010 and the new decade with developing genuine perspectives for peace. Let's start the new year with fostering friendships and dialogue. You're Arab, you're Jew, Christian, Hindu, Atheist, you can be whatever you are and can say .. I don't have nothing in common with you. Do we have to accept that? I wouldn't accept it - for the reason that we do have more in common than we sometimes expect. We are humans and want our children to grow up and live in peace. We are all humans and want to live peacefully and happily!
Let's talk about what really prevents us from living in peace even though, in our hearts, we all want just that. Let's talk about how we can overcome ethnic, national, and religious segregation.
I invite you to a year of dialogue. May the new decade bring peace after all!
