Honesty, Compassion and Peacemaking

One of the most important traits for accomplishing peace between the Israeli and the Palestinian people is to be honest with each other. It sounds very simple, but it is not an easy task to do. Before negotiating, it is essential that one should confront his/her own thoughts and beliefs about the "other". Don't be afraid to say what you think. However, do not be offensive or distasteful.

But wait a minute, what is honesty?
According to the definition it
"mean[s] uprightness of character or action. synonyms HONESTY, HONOR, INTEGRITY, PROBITY .HONESTY implies a refusal to lie, steal, or deceive in any way. HONOR suggests an active or anxious regard for the standards of one's profession, calling, or position. INTEGRITY implies trustworthiness and incorruptibility to a degree that one is incapable of being false to a trust, responsibility, or pledge. PROBITY implies tried and proven honesty or integrity."

One of the main obstacles of peace that the two sides do not trust each other. They both claim that the "other" is ling and deceiving them constantly. What is worst that they permit to themselves to analyze each others gestures and words. In order to prevent that we should paraphrase what we hear or read from the other side and make sure that we are not assuming what others think and believe.

The second step is to identify with the others` pain. You should put yourself in his/her shoes and ask yourself how it feels like. In short to be compassionate!

Peace be upon us all!

Manal,

I agree completely with your sentiments! We must all be honest with ourselves--which is not an easy task, but a necessary one. In this regard, parties must approach peacemaking with an honest respect for the common desire of all to live with security. Prosperity follows security. And I pray that happiness and friendship come with prosperity.

Yes, Manal, Shalom/Salam peace be upon us all.

MANAL ABBAS THANKS FOR YOU ISSUE ,YES HONESTY IS BEST, BUT IF SOMEONE ELSE STILL HIDING AND DENY BY IT SINS THTA THEY MADE YOU HAVE NOTHING TO DO, COMPASSION IT IS EASY TO HAVE A COMPASSION IN YOUR HEART OR IN EACH HEART, AND HOW COME IF YOU ALWAYS GIVE THIS WORD COMPASSION TO A PERSONS WHOM THEY ALWAYS MADE A SINS OR COMMITTED AN ERROR?AND PEACEMAKING FRIEND IT IS EASY TOO. HAVE A PEACE IN EVERYONE OF US HAVE A PEACE OF MIND BUT IF THE PERSONS HIMSELF OR HERSELF DON'T WANT PEACE YOU HAVE NOTHING TO DO SO,, AND IT DEPENDS A PERSONS WHOM YOU GIVE PEACE AND TO BE COMPASSION AND TO BE HONEST ,WELL FRIEND THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION IN YOUR ISSUE ME GOD BLESS YOU AND I HOPE TO MEET YOU SOON HERE AND YOU CAN OPEN MY PAGE HERE FOR YOUR FURTHER INFORMATION ON ME.GOOD LUCK AND MORE ISSUE TO BE DONE ON YOU.
