Currently there as been a lot of BDSM (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions Movement) towards Israel, along with an academic and cultural boycott. I don't mind if people-- schools, institutions, goverments, companies, etc. are divesting from companies that are invested in the violence, oppression and or occupation (on BOTH sides-- since I feel that both sides are responsible in one way or another for the violence, and current state of affairs within Israel and Palestine, but also with Israel and Palestine's neighboring countries as well).

Since so many people talk adamantly about divesting from Israeli Apartheid, and investing in Palestinian buisnesses, why not investing in Israeli companies, organizations, philanthropies that are helping Israelies that live under fear in Sderot and Ashkelon? Is peacemaking about helping people on both sides of the conflict? (I think that both local Israeli buissnesses, and people who are suffering should be aided and supported).

I think one good investment would be to invest into peace organizations, that bring together Israelies, Palestinians, Muslims, Arabs, Jews, Kurds, Persians, Ba'hais, etc, who work towards bringing about and promoting peace and justice.

I have wondered, has anyone invested in peaceful organizations?!
And if so, maybe we could make a list of organizations?

How about mepeace? Can we invest in mepeace? (I know that mepeace is a non profit organization, so that maybe tricky).

Any type of help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks

HI Alexi!

Your organization sounds really cool!

I think that it is great that it is helping to support Palestinian buisnesses, since I know that they had been depressed for quite some time!

But I am just curious, does your organization help the Beduins and the Druzes in both the West Bank and Israel?

And does your organization also help the Israelies in Sderot, Ashkelon and Southern Israel, whose buisnesses are failing do to the amount of rockets that were coming from the Gaza Strip?

Please let me know

Thanks

@ Hannah--

I don't know of any Palestinian companies that contribute to the occupation. But how about the violence towards Israeli civlians? (yes, I know that currently the violence towards them has ceased within the last few years).

I am saddened that you refer to the people of Ashkelon + Sderot as --> "And the "poor, terrorized" settlers in Ashkelon and Sderot are "living in fear" BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO SETTLE ON LAND THAT DOES NOT BELONG TO THEM. "

--> How is saying that conducive towards investing in peace or solving anything for that matter?

I really find that hurtful that you would say that about them. How about try saying that to someone that was from Sderot or Ashkelon.

Further more, many people who move there are low income, poor Israelies, many from the former Soviet Union.

Many who have moved there are stuck in a rut, and have no where else to go.

Many were to afraid to go outside, pack their things, when there were too many rockets being fired from the Gaza strip.

Many have post-traumatic stress disorder.

Now please, be respectful of me, my ideas and my posts.

Thanks

I am human, and I have feelings too.

Both Palestinians and Israelies are human too, and BOTH SIDES need our support, help, love, care and assistance.

It's the governments on BOTH SIDES that are contributing to the hate and violence

Regarding divesting from "both sides"-- um, I don't think there are any Palestinian companies that are contributing to the illegal occupation.

And the "poor, terrorized" settlers in Ashkelon and Sderot are "living in fear" BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO SETTLE ON LAND THAT DOES NOT BELONG TO THEM.

Stephanie,

I agree with your idea that we need to invest in both sides of the conflict in order to foster peace. One organization that is working to invest in the peace process is LendforPeace.org. Founded by 2 Jews and 2 Palestinians, LFP allows people from all around the world to make small loans to Palestinian entrepreneurs. Not only will this assist Palestinians who would like to start or grow their small businesses, but it allows people of all faiths and backgrounds to have a stake in the peace process. It is our hope that no matter what your background or feelings you may have about the conflict, people can agree that there is no winner in poverty.

There are also many other organization both in Israel and the United States that work unite different groups of people including One Voice and Seeds of Peace.
