Join J Street in Newton Centre on Thursday, June 18th

I will be attending this event next Thursday.
If anyone is in the Boston area, you should attend to! :)
Maybe we can go together!

J Street is pleased to invite you to

Temple Emanuel of Newton Centre on Thursday, June 18th at 7:30PM

J Street Executive Director Jeremy Ben-Ami

former AIPAC President and Democratic National Committee Chairman Steve Grossman

Obama and Netanyahu: Hopes for America and Israel.

The community discussion, moderated by Dr. Jonathan Sarna of Brandeis University, will focus on Israel's future and the American Jewish community's role in shaping that conversation. Israel's Consul General to New England Nadav Tamir and Rabbi Wes Gardenswartz will provide opening remarks.

Unfortunately, some of Israel's hawkish supporters have organized a campaign attempting to discredit J Street, the broader pro-Israel, pro-peace community, and this upcoming event. The Jewish Advocate recently ran an op-ed by Hillel Stavis, arguing, "Were American Jews to act like a normal, proud, democratic people, organizations like J Street would be unwelcome in any conceivable venue." [1]

We expect that Stavis' supporters will aim for a show of force at the event to challenge the premise of an open and honest conversation of how we can best support Israel in our community.

Our community's loudest and most hawkish voices have, for far too long, squashed open and honest conversation about how best to relate to politics on Israel and the Middle East. It is critical that we remind the Jewish community everywhere that Boston is friendly territory for the pro-Israel, pro-peace community.

I hope you'll join other J Street members in a show of our own strength - and respectfully demonstrate the political support in Boston for assertive American diplomacy to finally secure Israel's future as a Jewish, democratic homeland through a two-state solution.

Temple Emanuel is located at 385 Ward Street, Newton Centre, MA, 02459.

The event will begin at 7:30PM.

We look forward to you joining us for a constructive conversation on what it means to truly support Israel and its future as a Jewish, democratic homeland.
