I go to school at Hampshire College, out in Amherst, MA.
Hampshire is the first college in the US to divest from companies that profit from the Israeli occupation.
Below is a petition from Jewish Voice for Peace to Understand what is going on, and to help support the students.
As a university student, educator, alumnus, or staff member, you must have heard the news last week that Hampshire College became the first college in the United States to divest from a number of companies based on violations of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

One of the leaders of Hampshire Students for Justice in Palestine, the student organization that claimed credit for spurring divestment from occupation, is 19-year-old Israeli activist Matan Kohen, who partially lost his vision in one eye when Israeli Defense Forces fired a rubber bullet at him at a non-violent protest against the separation wall in Bil`in.
On the heels of the Shministim campaign, we are glad to see a renewal of student activism directed at ending the occupation, and have already issued a letter of support to the students. [www.jewishvoiceforpeace.org/publish/article_1167.shtml]
However, we can't simply stand by on the sidelines. Alan Dershowitz has called for a boycott of Hampshire College.
We must support Hampshire students and take their movement to other campuses. As Hampshire SJP says, "Divestment is Not a College-- It's a Movement!"
Help us grow this movement by sending an e-mail now to university President Ralph Hexter, congratulating the University on its decision and asking it to stand by it even in the face of pressure and criticism.
