I will be at a meeting tonight that starts at 6.00pm, and goes till late. So I will probably not say anything until tomorrow night. Mazin and Basil are much better than me on facts, but there are a few issues I would like to bring up with you.
I don't think the Brighton synagogue was around at the time of my visit to the St.Kilda one.
Hello Mick, I had been thinking about asking you about your background. I had never even imagined your family had been caught up in the extermination of Jews.
Something I know from my own childhood is that many Jews who came to Australia in the early 20th century drifted away from their Jewish origins, for one reason or another, particularly during the 1960’s. So I had always wondered at your strong commitment to Israel, since you appear to also be quite fond of Australia.
What happened in Germany was a most terrible tragedy, and the world needs to learn how to react appropriately to prevent future tragedies of this kind, rather than remaining fixated on the holocaust.
I would be very interested to hear more about your past and how you came to be living in Australia.
Do you attend the synagogue in St Kilda? I was once able to be a part of a service there, and I remember the music was quite enchanting. There was a trio of 3 young people who did all the singing, unaccompanied. The entire service was a special experience I have not forgotten.
I liked what you said about violence fueling Zionism. It's almost mysterious to me why Zionism is never viewed as pure patriotism. It seems the ones that can acknowledge and appreciate "moderate muslims", can't do the same for peacemaking Zionists. It's wierd. Well, I appreciate it! :)
Hello again - I've been swept away from this site, with friends family & new work projects... in this picture i am the one on the left & the other woman is a fellow "Woman in Black" at a PeacePath vigil here in Baltimore. My son is the young soldier in my life.
I've appreciated the dialog on this site - it's helped me to settle some of my ideas about Peace and our relationship to the conflicts we find in our lives.
I wish I had more time to read & share more with this group. It looks like I will be very busy for a March 16th deadline & a new idea I'd like to pursue in my community. I hope I have a chance to talk with you again after I settle my business obligations - I've enjoyed meeting you, and all the people here.
Thank you Mick -
I'm so glad to see all the activity on this site. It's wonderful to have this opportunity to understand worlds we may never have encountered otherwise.
Yesterday was my birthday - & my present to myself was to go to D.C. for the inauguration & then attend the Inaugural Peace Ball afterwards - what a great day! i am exhausted & very content - i'd like to make my volunteer work center on building Victory Gardens in communities, so kids can learn about nature & neighborhoods can share fellowship over organic meals ;o)
You mentioned you were unfamiliar with the ‘friends’ game. It is a trivial part of mepeace. Everyone here is primarily interested in discussing issues of genuine importance. There are other internet groups that are much bigger than mepeace, and on those groups, the ‘friends game’ is sometimes played as though it were a life and death matter. In those places there may be any amount of petty and cheap point scoring that some of us find degrading.
Here, I think most of us like to make sure we have at least ½ a dozen friends, so we can be confident we are looking normal. I am not sure if this is correct, but I think I recently saw you had no friends listed at all, and I wondered if you had decided to deliberately rebel against this social game.
There is one very useful aspect to having a ‘friend’. You have a direct private link that can be used for passing messages, without exchanging any kind of ‘address’. The link can be very useful if you want to disagree with someone who you suspect will not take well to what they may perceive as a public dressing down. There are other reasons to value the private message facility. There are some who would appreciate a little private support and encouragement.
My 3 daughters fill me in on some of the things this world is up to. Otherwise there is much that would pass me by.
Welcome Mick. Everybody deserves peace and opportunity. Use our Features. If you have a question on the site, see our FAQ. Please share your Feedback, and invite your friends to join us on mepeace.org.
