That's some response!
Thanks for the name 'Hawiye.
I think you might be judging Ms. Ali too harshly, but no matter.
Ad hominem arguments don't persuade anyway.
(And I really didn't want to go down the road of discussing FGM at all. Not here and not in this discussion. There are too many issues flying around as it is.) The question is what is the organizing principle of those fringe groups (if they are anti-nationalistic), and whether, in their minds, it has to with their conception of their religoin.
That is why I asked about the Ikhwan. They have a non-national, religious basis (in their minds) for their organization. And we know what they have done to Sudan.
I was just wondering whether Somalia is really not fighting the same enemy as Israel - in the Ikhwan.
Amen to that.
Say, do you know anything about the role of the Muslim Brotherhood in the current fight between the Somali government and the rebels?
Do you know if the rebels are being supported by the Sudanese or Saudi governments?
(I was told by refugees from Darfur, who are now living in Israel, that the Sudanese government is pretty much run by the Brotherhood, which is mainly responsible for the genocide there. And according to Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Professor Fuad Ajami, the 'Ikhwan' is responsible for the mess in Somalia as well.)
Just wondering if you have anything to add to that?
All the best,
I'm thrilled to meet you here on mepeace. And thanks for contacting me!
The Israeli-Ethiopian population faces many challenges, which I believe can be overcome (with a lot of work).
(By the way, they don't like being called 'Falashas;' they consider it to be a derogatory term. I'm told it means "stranger." Ethiopian Jews have been calling themselves "Beta Israel" for ages.)
How's Minneapolis? Warm now?
If you have time, maybe check out the website at www.elitesprogram.org,
to see some of my past Ethiopian Israeli students.
Keep in touch!
