I am a 63 year old Jew who believes in a Jewish State of Israel and a viable, successful independent and sovereign Palestinian state alongside. In 1967 I was among a number of Australian volunteers who went to Israel because we thought its existence was in peril. I was born in Czechoslovakia and emigrated to Australia with my parents, grandparents and brother in 1949. I am a retired company director but am active in various activist networks - specifically refugees and harm reduction policy in illicit drug use. I have been married for almost 40 years, have 3 adult children and 8 grandchildren.
Why I want peace:
Because I believe that the vast majority of humanity want the same things - peace, the ability to earn a living to provide for their families and the ability to maximise their true potential. Violence, political or otherwise does not and never has achieved anything but more violence, pain and suffering. It debases human existence.
Interests and activities:
Walking, collecting vintage vehicles, water sports, boating, travel.
Something you didn't know about me:
Mothers maiden name.
How I found mepeace.org:
What I want to achieve here:
To determine if I can become actively involved and engaged with any of the NGO's involved in efforts to get Palestinians and Jews(Israelis and non Israelis) to understand and acknowledge each others narratives as a means of moving forward on other bridge building projects.

A True Story By Faisal Al-kateep
I am a Palestinian Arab from Hizmeh, a village between Jerusalem and Ramallah. When I was 15 years old I fought against the Israeli Occupation in search of freedom. At that time I thought every Jewish person, whether soldier or citizen, man or woman, young or old, should be killed. I rejected the right for any Jew to live and every Jew was a target. I was just a kid, believe me, and I didn’t understand anything about politics or the Arab-Israeli conflict. I was arrested and sat in jail for 12 years. This was during the first intifada from 1987. At that time nobody talked about peace but only of violence. I matured during my time in jail. I started studying and reading books on politics, literature, poetry, and about the Madrid Conference.
It gave me hope to live in peace and dignity. I learned that violence only breeds violence and that peace is the only solution for the two nations, the only way for both to have a respectful and beautiful future. We live on the same land. We are neighbors. We drink the same water and both pray to a monotheistic God. We must live in peace on the basis of religion for God and land for everyone.
Poor Yaari - hang on to your fears and paranoia - sounds like you really enjoy those friends. Is it possible that people actually do want to harm you or is it just that warm fearful feeling that makes you tick ?.
You posted that to a thread on security industries. I don't quite understand why you felt the need to couch your "reasoning." Realizing that their our legitimate security needs has nothing to do with paranoia.
I bet we actually have a lot upon which we would agree.
Why don't we try to find some common ground by avoiding the personal slaps to start.
