I live in the United States, where I am a freelance writer and consultant.  When Nederland broke off from Spain, it extended coexistence to the Sephardim from Spain and Portugal -- hence the Portuguese Synagogue in Amsterdam, the Huguenots from France, and the Pilgrims, who settled at Plymouth Rock, lived in Leyden.  In fact, there is a Pilgrim Museum in Leyden.  "Wilhelmus van Nassouwe"  I still remember all of the lyrics to it.  Also, how New York City, was originally Nieuw-Amsterdam.  Dag goed.
