Peace is more than simply the lack of violence. It is a relationship of harmony between people and between people and their environment and within people. It is possibly impossible that one can experience complete peace -- except in states of meditation, when one clears one’s mind from the travails of life. On the other hand, when examined under the lens of spirituality and a healthy relationship with the Creator, the entire world is at peace and in harmony at all times -- even in the most…See More
I am an American Jew who supports the peace process and wants a two state solution. I have several Muslim friends and believe that the conflict is not about religion, but about land -- even though religion plays a part for some. I also believe that we cannot wait for governments to make peace. Peace begins with the people. The politicians will follow the people. And the people are the ones who must live in peace side by side.
Why I want peace:
I want peace because I know how bad conflict can be. I have never lived in a war zone. I have never lived in a society where I had to deal with war. However, I spent years of my life wanting to commit suicide every day because kids bullied me and I did not have friends. I know what it is to feel hated and isolated and scared. I also remember my parents arguing all the time when I was a child. This was difficult. I also feel that, as a Jew and as a person, it is my duty to build peace -- to make the world better for those who come after me and for those around me. I have had much pain in my life, but I cannot imagine the pain of losing loved ones to armed conflict and learning to carry on. I want peace so that no one has to feel that way again.
